University of Johannesburg (UJ) netball star Cornelia Mupenda is set to embark on an exciting new chapter in her career, joining a team in the Singapore Super League.

Mupenda, a renowned defender known for her impressive height and athleticism, has been a key player for the UJ Senior Women’s Netball Team in recent years. Her contributions have been instrumental in the team’s success, including their historic first-ever semifinal appearance in the Varsity Netball tournament and the subsequent two consecutive finals.
“I’m incredibly excited about this opportunity,” says Mupenda. “I believe this experience will significantly enhance my netball skills and provide me with valuable international exposure.”
Her departure follows in the footsteps of teammate Muhluri Hlatshwayo, who recently played for the Putrajaya Dynamites in the Malaysian Netball Super League.
This news further solidifies UJ’s reputation as a breeding ground for talented netball players. The university continues to provide a platform for its athletes to excel and pursue their international ambitions.

Mupenda, a UJ postgraduate Public Relations student, was born and raised in Omaruru in Namibia. Over the years, she has represented the Namibia national netball team well in various competitions while pursuing her studies at UJ.
She will play in Singapore until 24 March 2025. “It will be my first time in Singapore. So, I am looking forward to the experience and making my contributions to the best of my ability,” says Mupenda.
