UJ Netball in high spirits for Varsity Netball tournament

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]The success of the University of Johannesburg’s (UJ) Netball Club in the 2022 sport season has given Coach Bongiwe Msomi’s players a confidence boost ahead of this year’s Varsity Netball tournament. The Orange Army’s enthusiasm was palpable during their breakfast send-off with the University’s executive leadership on Monday, 29 August 2022 at the UJ Astro Hockey Club House.

This year, a sizable number of the UJ Netball Club players have performed exceptionally well for the University as well as in the Telkom Netball League (TNL) and the University Sport South African (USSA) Netball Games that were organised in July.

“The team is the pride of our University. Every team that goes into any competition, does so with a strategy on how to win games and plan for the opposition, you don’t just play and hope for the best – that is good leadership. You have a formidable team and I believe that UJ will win this 2022 Varsity Netball edition. So, please make us proud,” said Dr Nolitha Vukuza, a member of the University’s Management Executive Committee (MEC) responsible for University Relations, Student Affairs & UJ Sport divisions.

The UJ senior women’s netball team has tremendously improved under the stewardship of the 150-capped national SPAR Proteas team captain, Head Coach Bongiwe Msomi. Msomi’s impressive accolades and dedication on the court have influenced the team to move up the ranks (from 7th position in  2021 to being crowned winners of the various leagues and 1st in the USSA championship this year).

The Varsity Netball tournament starts on 17 September and ends on 10 October 2022, with three rounds to be played in Gauteng (Tshwane), North West (Potchefstroom) and Free State (Bloemfontein) Provinces.

Senior UJ Managers attending the send-off meeting included Ms Nompilo Zondi (Clubs), Mr Francois Fouche (Support Services), and Ms Marianne Viljoen (Athlete Support: Sport Medicine and Rehabilitation), as well as the UJ Sport Senior Director, Ms Nomsa Mahlangu.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width=”1/3″][vc_column_text]
