UJ Netball crowned JNA Twizza League champions ahead of 2021 FNB Varsity Netball tournament start

The University of Johannesburg’s (UJ) Netball Club players are the new reigning queens for winning the 2021 JNA Twizza Club league.
This club league was born out of a partnership between Twizza and Netball South Africa. The competition was segmented into district, provincial and national levels.

The top two performing teams from each district went through to the next round and competed at an inter-provincial netball competition between July and August 2021.

“It is fantastic for our club to win the District Twizza Competition. The club is fairly new and we’ve been working hard in getting it to be the best environment possible. Always great to record some wins to add on some positivity,” says Bongiwe Msomi, UJ Netball Club Coach and Manager.

The club is crowned champions of the league just a few weeks before they travel to Stellenbosch for the start of the 8th edition of the Varsity Netball competition. Varsity Netball, which will be played in a bio-bubble, will start on Saturday, 21 and end on 30 August 2021. The competition was off for a year due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

All 36 matches of the 10-day tournament will be broadcast live on SuperSport, including the final on Monday, 30 August at 18:30.

The competition will take place at the Coetzenburg Indoor Centre at Maties, with all eight university squads heading into a bio-bubble to complete the fixtures, including the semi-finals and final.

The opening round of Varsity Netball on Saturday, 21 August, will see UJ take on TUT followed by a match between UWC and the Madibaz and a rematch of the 2019 semi-final between Maties and Kovsies. The last match on day one starts at 18:30 when defending champions Tuks and NWU go head-to-head in a rematch of the dramatic 2017 Varsity Netball final, which Tuks won 43-41 with less than a minute remaining.
