The award-winning University of Johannesburg (UJ) Choir was announced the first runner-up of the inaugural Kyknet choral competition, Varsity Sing, on Thursday, 13 October 2016, held in Johannesburg.
“We were very excited to have made it that far, so much so that we left our souls on that stage,” said UJ Industrial Psychology student and choir member Tswelopele Molema, on their performance. He added, “We are very fond, and respect the choirs in the top 4, we knew the competition would be stiff.”
The season started off with 12 university choirs from all over South Africa.
At the final, which was broadcast on DStv, the multi-award winning UJ Choir showcased its diversity performing the classical I Will Lift Mine Eyes, followed by the contemporary jazz Fever, ending it off with the African Medley.
