​Motloung, the first born in a family of four and the first child in her family to study at university, graduated on March 2014. Financially supported by her father who is the sole breadwinner at home, Motloung could not hold back her tears, overwhelmed with emotion when recalling her academic journey at UJ and the challenges she faced as a first-year-student. “When I came to the University, I had no friendships. I was alone and had to make friends. I had to fend for myself because it was difficult. I relied heavily on my mother’s support,” says Motloung.

She ​always wanted to start a career in the corporate world. Her choice for the Accountancy course was inspired by her hopes to contribute positively to the economic and social growth of South Africa’s development. The young lady says her knowledge from UJ will help her reach her dreams and bring about solutions that will enable institutions to run clean businesses. According to Motloung, her love for Auditing is one that will help fight corruption and hopefully bring about positive change.

Motloung says she would love to be a qualified chartered accountant in the future and with the knowledge and experience of the economic sector, she would​ also pursue business endeavors in property investments.

“I see this qualification as a stepping stone to many great opportunities. I have always loved accounting as a subject in school. Also, UJ was my number one choice because it is one of the leading academic institutions in South Africa if not the number one when it comes to Accountancy. I have learned a great deal here and I am definitely continuing my studies here at UJ,” says Motloung with a firm confirmation how much she values education.

The young Accounting graduate went to Alberton Primary School and later completed her secondary education at Jeppe High School for Girls, one of the top performing schools in Gauteng. Her greatest wish right now is to send her younger brother to also study further after he completes his matric. This would be her gesture to show her parents that she appreciates their efforts in raising her well and preparing a brighter future for her and her family.
