Second place for UJ for Best International Tertiary Education Institution at the Botswana Tertiary Education Fair 2014

The University of Johannesburg (UJ) retained its position as recipient of top awards at the Botswana Tertiary Education Awards Ceremony for the past three years. Last year, UJ was awarded the 1st place, while coming in 2nd place in 2012 in the category of Best International Higher Education Institution.

The fair was held at the Boipuso Hall in Gaborone, Botswana from Wednesday, 26 March to Saturday, 29 March 2014. UJ participates at this fair alongside the University of Free State, University of Venda, Campus College, and many other local universities and colleges. The fair attracts no less than 80 exhibitors with an estimated 15 000 visitors annually.

The Division for Internationalisation is pleased with this award and continues to participate in international platforms to position UJ as an international institution of choice for undergraduate and postgraduate studies.

As part of its mandate to grow International Students enrollment, the Division for Internationalisation at UJ has in the first quarter of this year participated at higher Education Exhibitions in Botswana, Brazil, Lesotho and Swaziland.

Mr Tshidiso Konese, Senior Manager: International Students Recruitment and Welfare says that UJ continues to compete successfully in existing and new International markets. The Division’s fortitude to promote UJ as an International University of Choice and a preferred destination for Higher Education studies is well underway and acknowledged at various levels of participation.

“Our International recruitment strategy continues to yield expected outcomes resulting in an increased number of successful applications and the celebrated awards over the past three (3) years. This is a result of the Division’s integrated marketing and recruitment efforts which target two separate markets: undergraduate and postgraduate prospective students. These campaigns and initiatives are then able to compete with other international universities and colleges.

“Judging was centred on the key thematic areas that define the principles of access, quality, equity and relevance of programmes offered by the tertiary education institutions. Other key areas included customer service, general neatness and presentation at the stall, overall branding, university offerings and attitude towards the customers,” says Mr Konese.

The adjudication of the exhibitors was clustered into the following categories:

  1. Botswana Universities
  2. International Institutions
  3. Public Institutions
  4. Private Institutions
  5. Technical Colleges
  6. Overall Stall
  7. Government Departments
  8. Best Customer Service
  9. Best Brand
  10. Vocational Institutions
