The South African Institution of Civil Engineering (SAICE) awarded its prestigious President’s Award to the University of Johannesburg’s (UJ) compassionate and committed Researcher and Senior Lecturer, Mr Deon Kruger. He has served in the University’s Faculty of Engineering and the Built Environment (FEBE) for many years.
This accolade has ushered in worldwide congratulatory messages from colleagues and professionals in the engineering field to Mr Kruger.
Prof Mahmoud Reda Taha from the University of New Mexico said: “This is a well-deserved recognition that brings pride to all of us. We look forward celebrating this recognition with Deon in April in Washington, DC during ICPIC 2018.”
Another message came from Distinguished Teaching Professor Emeritus, David Fowler, who teaches at the University of Texas at Austin: “Congratulations to our fellow, Deon! Great award and very well deserved. We are all proud of you as our colleague.”
Kyu-Seok Yeon from Kangwon (http://www.kangwon.ac.kr/) said: “Congratulations to Deon on receiving the South African Civil Engineering Institute President’s Award! What an accomplishment. I have no doubt that no one is more deserving. I look forward to seeing him soon in DC.”
After receiving the award, Mr Kruger said: “This is a special award issued by the SAICE President in exceptional and highly deserving circumstances. It is not done on a regular basis. It is an honour for me to receive this and it is highly respected by the international academic community.”
