Prof Annie Temane, has been appointed Vice Dean Research and Innovation, Faculty of Health Sciences as of July 2020. Prof Temane [BNSC, MCur (Psychiatric Nursing), DCur (Psychiatric Nursing)] was the previous Head of Department (HoD): Nursing.
Prof Temane’s academic career spans more than a decade, from lecturer, senior lecturer to associate professor and provides her with substantial experience in higher education lecturing, research and supervision. She has supervised and co-supervised several masters and doctoral candidates to completion. She has acted as external examiner for postgraduate students from several universities such as University of Pretoria, Nelson Mandela University, University of KwaZulu- Natal, North-West University, Sefako Makgatho Health Science University, Durban University of Technology, University of Limpopo and the Steve Biko Bioethics Centre. She is passionate about mental health, research supervision and ethics.
Prof Temane serves on several committees internally and externally of the university. She serves on the Faculty of Health Sciences Research Ethics committee as the deputy vice chairperson as well as on the Ministerial Advisory Committee on mental health appointed by the previous Minister of Health, Dr A Motsoaledi. She was also appointed by Prof Abdool Karim to serve on an advisory task team enhancing preventative measures for COVID-19. She acted as a consultant for qualitative research at the Steve Biko Bioethics Centre at the University of Witwatersrand and serves on the editorial board of the in-house journal of the Department of Nursing, Health Gesondheid SA, as a sectional editor.
She has been a panel member to review research grants for the National Research Fund and was a representative for the Faculty of Health Sciences at the U21 Health Sciences Group in the mental health and international development group.
