While she savors winning the Technical Official of the Year Award at the 2022 Gauteng Women in Sports Awards on 25 March 2022, Kelello Kgotuwe Tswai has also been called up to help the national University Sport South Africa (USSA) men’s senior basketball team. She is a University of Johannesburg (UJ) Sport Scientist.
The USSA team will be going on its first camp from 1 to 3 April 2022. “This is a humbling moment. A national call-up is proof that I am doing the right thing in my career. I am looking forward to all of it and will be embracing every aspect of being part of the team as the sport scientist,” says Tswai.
She joined UJ in February this year, currently looking after the UJ men’s and women’s senior teams. Prior to joining UJ, Tswai plied her trade at Wits Sport.
“It is extremely exciting to see our qualified staff who have such extensive know in various sporting codes being acknowledged in this fashion. This also bodes well for our University due to the quality of support our athletes have. Her experience in the national setup will improve the UJ brand. We are proud of her in her selection and we wish her all the best,” says Elize le Roux, Basketball Club Manager.
This will be Tswai’s first national experience. “I am very passionate about what I do. I obviously still need to continue working hard and smart to make sure that all my athletes do well in all aspects,” adds Tswai.
Previously, other UJ Basketball Club members selected for the USSA teams included Coach Mandla Ngema and student-athletes Zett Mutongoza and Hope Dim following their good performances in the USSA tournament in Gqeberha in 2021.
“This year has started on a good note for me. Everyone in the UJ Sport clubs is motivated to do well. It is going to be a great year and I am ready for the work ahead,” adds Tswai.
