Regular Banyana Banyana features Sphumelele and Thubelihle Shamase (twin sisters) and newcomers Karabo Mohale and Kabelo Mokoena, have been called to join Banyana Banyana in camp from 4 to 15 October 2023 for the COSAFA tournament. Mohale and Mokoena played a crucial role in UJ’s Varsity Football tournament run this year in Tshwane and the Hollywoodbets Super League matches.

Sandra and Adrielle Mibe have been called to play for the Junior Under-20 Women’s National Team which will take on Burundi’s junior women’s nation teal in the World Cup qualifying matches on 8th and 11th of October 2023 in Johannesburg.

“It is exciting to see our student-athletes getting selected to assist the South African national football teams. While we have football players who have featured in the Banyana Banyana setup, it is also even more encouraging to see newer students added to the team. It’s a reflection of the good work from the players and the UJ Football Club. We are proud of them and wish them the best in their respective competitions,” says Nthabeleng Modiko, Head Coach: UJ Senior Women’s Football Team.

These student-athletes’ selections come just a month after UJ Goalkeeper Coach Mr Lucky Shiburi assisted the Under-17 National Team in late August 2023.
