Mrs Naomi Strydom retires after 23 years at the University

Mrs Naomi Strydom retired from her position as the Faculty of Science’s Head of Faculty Administration (HFA). Friday, 8 December 2017 marked the end of Mrs Strydom’s 10 years as HFA and hopefully the beginning of her uncapped moments of well-earned rest.

She has contributed greatly to the productivity and success of the Faculty. The passion and professionalism she brought to the Faculty is something that we should all try to emulate.

Mrs Strydom has been with the University of Johannesburg (UJ) for 23 years. She has been a mentor and an outstanding colleague to many in the Faculty and in the University. One of the many people she has been a mentor to is Dr Buyi Sondezi, the first woman in Africa to be awarded a doctoral degree in the experimental Physics of highly correlated matter.

In Dr Sondezi’s words: “Mrs Strydom has been very accommodating and helpful. I remember how she used to motivate me during my PhD and the advice she gave me before I climbed the graduation stage.”

The team at the Dean’s Office bid Mrs Strydom farewell on Tuesday, 21 November 2017 at an intimate farewell ceremony. The Executive Dean of Science, Prof Debra Meyer, also gave her a special thanks at the recently hosted FoS Year End Function on Friday, 1 December 2017 at the Country Club Johannesburg.
