The University of Johannesburg (UJ) Senior Men’s Football Team clinched a third victory in their Varsity Football campaign against the University of Pretoria (UP-Tuks) in a tough encounter on Thursday evening, 28 August 2025. UJ scored their fourth goal in four matches, successfully containing the relentless UP-Tuks in a 1-0 win at the UJ Soweto Stadium.

Just before the half-time break, Modisane rattled the crossbar, to the cheering fans’ dismay that the ball could not crossed the line as it bounced back into play. Tuks’ bench was relieved that the referee did not point to the centre spot for a goal.
The first half ended goalless despite several attempts at goal by both sides. However, the start of the second half offered the home crowd some cheers as UJ’s Keletso Sekhwela ‘strike found the back of the net from teammate Karabo Modisane’s long throw in.
UJ took the lead. Tuks continued pushing for an equaliser but UJ’s formidable defence duo of Thabo Moshikere and Yasidu Lifa proved tough to crack. After 6 minutes of added time, the score remained 1-0 in favour of the hosts with UJ claiming their third consecutive win since the start of the tournament earlier this month.
The Orange Army (UJ) takes on visitors Durban University of Technology in Round 5 at the UJ Soweto Stadium on Thursday, 4 September 2025, kick-off at 18:30.
