[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]The high performance squad members of the University of Johannesburg (UJ) Netball Club have continued showcasing stellar performances in various championships this year. In recent performances, five netballers were awarded various impressive accolades for their prowess in the 2022 Spar National Championships which took place from 7 to 13 August 2022 at the Fanie Du Toit sports ground, North West University.
Nomfundo Mngomezulu and Tarle Mathe won Shooter of the Tournament and Player of the Tournament, respectively. Muhluri Hlatswayo was crowned Most Developing Player and also listed in the Netball South Africa (NSA) Development Squad alongside Khatsi Tshisikhawe, while Nobuhle Sibisi was included in the Under-21 national squad.
Johannesburg A won 24-23 against Tshwane A in the senior A final to win the 2022 senior A division Spar National Championships. The UJ Netball Club players were part of Johannesburg A with Dr Elsje Jordaan as the head coach. Tshwane A won 38-27 against Dr Kenneth Kaunda team in the final match to be crowned winners of the Under-21 A division.
“This award means a lot to me because I’ve been working hard and it shows that hard work really pays off. This is my second year playing netball and for me to be part of the development squad is truly an inspiration work even harder for the journey ahead.
“I never thought that I would be given an award or being part of the development squad, but it shows that if you respect what you do and dedicate your efforts to it anything is possible,” said Hlatswayo, first-year UJ Accountancy student.
Mngomezulu, who will be competing in the CUCSA Games in Malawi, was elated with the win. The second-year student (Road Transport Management – freight) says she did not anticipate winning Shooter of the Tournament – her plan was to win the tournament.
Tshisikhawe is a BSc Physiology and Biochemistry student and Sibisi is part of the UJ Netball Club.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width=”1/3″][vc_column_text][/vc_column_text][/vc_column][vc_column width=”1/3″][vc_column_text][/vc_column_text][/vc_column][vc_column width=”1/3″][vc_column_text][/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]
