On Monday, 28 August 2017, Judge Dikgang Moseneke, retired Deputy Chief Justice of the Constitutional Court, will speak to the University of Johannesburg’s (UJ) staff and students on his book entitled, My Own Liberator: A Memoir. The talk, hosted in collaboration with Pan Macmillan publishers, pays homage to the many people and places that have helped to define and shape Judge Moseneke.

In tracing his ancestry, the influence on both his maternal and paternal sides is evident in the values they imbued in their children. In the book, Judge Moseneke relays the importance of family, the value of hard work and education, an uncompromising moral code, compassion for those less fortunate and unflinching refusal to accept an unjust political regime or acknowledge its oppressive laws.

Judge Moseneke is regarded as one of the strongest judges on South Africa’s Constitutional Court. He was praised for his ‘towering legal mind’ and ‘commitment to fairness and justice’ and described as ‘a most independent-minded and imaginative jurist’.

He retired in May 2016 from his position as Deputy Chief Justice.
