Dear UJ Community,
We express our sincere appreciation to each one of you for embracing our Mandatory Vaccination Policy. Your cooperation has contributed to making UJ a safer place for every one of us and the wider community.
Since the adoption of the Policy, we have made good progress to ensure compliance. To date, 97.5% of our fixed term and permanent staff have complied. More than 91% undergraduate students and 67.5 postgraduate students are also compliant. Congratulations to everyone, well done!
As communicated previously, our approach to this policy has always been guided by the principle of supporting those in need of help and ensuring that we adapt to the new realities. In this regard, we have decided to allow employees and students who are yet to be compliant more time to do so.
This grace period (which will apply until further notice) has been informed by, amongst other factors, the lifting of the National State of Disaster. However, notwithstanding this, UJ is still obliged to create a safe environment for staff, students and visitors. To ensure an informed and safe way forward, UJ will be conducting further risk assessments. The outcome and recommendations of these risk assessments will be informed by a myriad of factors, including the high numbers of declared vaccinations by our students and staff as indicated above.
During this grace period, students and staff who are not yet vaccinated will be allowed to access campus, subject to presenting a negative PCR test not older than 7 days at the point of entry. If you have been vaccinated and have not uploaded your vaccination certificate, please do so on https://ulink.uj.ac.za/ujvac.
Assistance for staff and students with difficulty in submitting their vaccination certificates, can be requested from +27 11 559 4555 or mylife@uj.ac.za. Employees without access to a computer and/or emails should seek assistance from their line managers or from the ICS Department by dialing +27 11 559 8888 for the uploading of vaccination certificates, using the above link. If you have lost your vaccination code, you may report at any vaccination site to receive a new one or call 0800 029 999 for assistance.
