Enactus University of Johannesburg (Enactus UJ), successfully launched the Mkhaya Virtual Store at the Joburg Opportunity Centre on 14 April 2023 in partnership with The Joburg Market’s Opportunity Centre. 30 SMMEs who attended the launch were given the opportunity to showcase their product and given the opportunity to sell on the platform. Potential partners from Zambia and Namibia attended the hybrid event, virtually.

The aim of the Mkhaya Virtual Store project is to give SMMEs access to markets online and to encourage potential investors to fund potential entrepreneurs/SMMEs that may need funding for start-up/growth purposes.

Enactus UJ, previously known as SIFE, is part of Enactus South Africa, which is established at 22 universities in SA and in a worldwide network accessible on www.enactus.org. Enactus UJ has several projects that encourage and promote entrepreneurship among students and also assist local communities of Johannesburg in problem areas, such as those experienced by SMMEs. Projects are driven by Sustainable Developmental Goals (SDGs) and South Africa’s National Development Plan (NDP) 2030.

Lawrence Seseni, the University of Johannesburg Faculty Adviser in the Department of Business Management spoke about the role of Enactus UJ to produce “future fit” business leaders . ‘’At Enactus, we strongly believe that entrepreneurial action for others creates a better world for us all. Consequently, we will achieve the Sustainable Development Goals and South Africa’s National Development Plan 2030 through our entrepreneurial activities.”

Additionally, Enactus UJ’s Umdlalo Virtual Gaming Centre project aims to provide young people with coding skills to create South African/African indigenous games, preparing them for the Fourth Industrial Revolution and driving innovation in the gaming industry.
