On Tuesday, 21st June 2022, the Deputy Vice-Chancellor: Research and Internationalisation, Prof Saurabh Sinha, hosted the Chinese Consul General, Mr Tang Zhongdong at our Auckland Park Kingsway Campus (APK).
Over the last 3 years the Chinese Consul General has been generously donating bursaries to top performing students at UJ. This year, the International Office received a donation of R240 000, an increase to previous years. This will support up to 10 top performing international students. During the visit, the Consul General Mr TANG further committed their support to UJ in 2023, through the Education and Culture Programme. Other areas of collaboration discussed include the South East China by train, a study abroad exchange programme initiative.
“South Africa and China have built a strong relationship and collaborate in various areas. A key focus area for both countries is higher education and UJ is extremely proud to have fostered relationships with both the Chinese Embassy and the Consulate in South Africa including Chinese higher education institutions.
We are grateful to the Chinese Consulate for their contribution to support UJ students with their studies and look forward to strengthening this relationship,” said Ms Ntombise Mangqase, Director: Fundraising and Administration, Division for Internationalisation.
