Teboho Ntefo is an 18-year-old first year student from the Vaal.

Her on-campus life sees her travelling between the Bunting Road Campus where she attends her classes and the Soweto Campus – where she resides.

“I am studying towards a Diploma in Marketing, my second choice, as I couldn’t do my Human Resources Management course because it was already full.”

Ntefo may decide to change her course next year but for now she is happy to discover the world of marketing. She initially chose Human Resources because there is a lot of recruitment post degrees.

“There are a few jobs open to people and often people qualify in courses that result in less chances of employment. I feel like people are now more focused on studying towards something that will guarantee them a job after university.”

Ntefo is one of the many first year students that get to experience being on campus after two years of online learning.

“We have face-to-face classes but there are certain things we have to do online like tests and tutorials. It’s all about navigating through, it’s not easy or difficult to manoeuvre around technology but I prefer having face-to-face conversations with my lecturers.”

She is making sure she is set for her first year already organising her study plan for the academic year.

“At our residence, Imbewu, we are given three hours of study time and I use that time to study different modules. If there is a certain chapter, I don’t understand I focus on it more. This plan is working for me because I was using it last year and it helped me a great deal.”

Ntefo is loving campus life, she finds the leadership great and her peers fun to be around.
“Everyone lends a helping hand, it’s like having another family away from home.”
