A country that was once the poster child of social cohesion, reconciliation and prosperity, has lost its credibility due to political power struggles and corruption. South African leadership is undeniably at a crossroads.
Dr Makhosi Khoza, former Member of Parliament and Chairperson of the Portfolio Committee on Public Service delivered the 11th Annual Helen Joseph lecture at the University of Johannesburg (UJ) on Tuesday 10th October, 2017.
In her lecture titled A cry for leadership: Social Cohesion, Reconciliation and Prosperity for all South Africans, Dr Khoza argued that ‘the democracy we enjoy today, based on our Constitution, was founded by women, [and] yet has been conveniently forgotten with time”. She asks “What may we learn from women leaders such as Helen Joseph and those who came before us about how to respond to the social and political challenges today?” A “Cry for leadership” sets out her vision for how women leaders could bring about social cohesion, reconciliation and prosperity for all South Africans.
