During the FIFA Window period this month, South Africa’s Senior Women’s Team, which will be divided into two teams, will play the Women’s COSAFA Cup (B Team) and two international friendly matches. The COSAFA Cup will take place between 22 October and 2 November 2024 in Gqeberha, Eastern Cape while the friendly matches in Denmark and England will be played on 25 and 29 October, respectively.

As such, five University of Johannesburg (UJ) Senior Women’s Football players, namely; Matshidiso Masebe, Shannon Macomo, Ayesha Moosa, Yolanda Nduli and Gugulethu Dhlamini were selected to represent Banyana Banyana’s B Team. They will also be joined by two UJ Football staff members Lucky Shiburi (Goalkeeper Coach) and Oriel Bagani (Video Analyst).
Additionally, UJ Women’s Football Head Coach, Nthabeleng “Dunga” Modiko will be working with the Banyana Banyana A Team in the two international friendly matches.

Speaking the selection of the UJ players and staff, Coach Modiko commended the UJ Football Club for its positive contribution to national team structures. “It’s an incredible and humbling clarion call that highlights the impact of the University’s contribution towards national sports. This call also signifies an applause from the South African Football Association to UJ that they have are doing something right to developing talent and seriously investing in sports programmes.” Said Modiko.
“I wish the players and colleagues well, and I trust that we will do our best to represent the country well during the two challenges,” she added.

Coach Modiko will reunite with former UJ footballers, twin sisters Sphumelele and Thubelihle Shamase as well as alumna Dineo Magagula.
UJ U16 team player, Nomathamsanqa Lara Tshabalala, will also be representing the SA U/15 Football Team in the CAF African School Football Championship (COSAFA Qualifiers) in Namibia from 11 to 13 October 2024.
