10,000 Coursera Licenses secured for UJ Staff and Students

In May 2020, Prof. Abejide Ade-Ibijola (Department of Applied Information Systems, College of Business and Economics) and Prof. Charis Harley (Professor of 4IR in the Faculty of Engineering and the Built Environment) were able to secure 10,000 Coursera licences for UJ staff and students to be able to access 3,000 online courses per license. These courses are presented by specialists in the field, from IVY League and the top 200 universities in the world – all for FREE – with a total estimated worth of 1.5 Billion US Dollars. These licenses will expire at the end of September 2020.

Staff members and students are currently being given licenses to learn for free on this platform through the following links:

This process is supported by UJ Academic Development and Support (ADS).

Both Professors have also put together programmes containing 4IR-related courses on Coursera, spanning the different faculties at UJ, which will become available. This initiative serves as a fortuitous intervention during a critical period in education amidst a disruptive global pandemic. This opportunity is especially important for students looking to brush up on their skills before entering the labour market, as well as staff members looking to stay current in their relevant field or further their learning.
