The University of Johannesburg (UJ) has taken another meaningful step forward in its digital journey. In the 2025 UniRank Top 200 Universities on Facebook, UJ’s official page moved up nine places, rising from 61st globally in 2024 to a strong 52nd position in 2025 uniRank. This progression reflects real momentum and clear digital resonance with a global audience.
The improvement reflects a focused social media strategy that mirrors UJ’s long-term vision. By sharing stories of research excellence, innovation, global collaboration, and societal impact, UJ’s digital platforms have become a direct extension of the University’s 2035 Strategic Plan.

Ms Michelle Radikariki, UJ’s Social Media and Marketing Projects Manager, credited the achievement to deliberate planning and consistent execution. “This milestone, achieved with the strong support of our followers, is truly encouraging. We appreciate our online community for helping us become one of the most preferred university Facebook pages globally. This achievement highlights UJ’s commitment to using social media to boost brand visibility and foster community engagement.” She added that “the team’s approach combines in-depth audience insights with a content strategy that educates, informs, and entertains. This success reflects the vibrant UJ community and our dedication to digital communication and community building.”
She pointed out that the rise in the uniRank rankings demonstrates how digital platforms can be used strategically to broaden influence and strengthen connections with communities both locally and internationally. “Alumni, students, staff, partners, and parents have played a central role in building this momentum through their active participation and engagement.”
Ms Radikariki concluded that this achievement reflects more than a rise in numbers: “This milestone highlights UJ’s evolving role as a South African institution rooted in Africa while extending its influence across the Global South. By aligning our social media tactics with the University’s broader strategy, we can amplify impact in presence, partnerships and purpose. Our platforms are not only a channel to share information, but a space to engage and inspire. Through this approach, UJ continues to broaden its reach and connect with diverse audiences who share a vision for a progressive, inclusive and sustainable future.
