The class of 2012 of the affiliated high school to the University of Johannesburg (UJ), UJ Metropolitan Academy, produced a 100% pass rate with the release of the Grade 12 results. This is the 18th year a 100% pass rate was obtained since the School’s inception 20 years ago in 1992.
UJ Metropolitan Academy caters for selected high-school learners from disadvantaged communities who demonstrate potential for success in studies at higher education institutions.
A total of 131 distinctions particularly in mathematics, science, economics and accounting, are among the reaped fruits. 84% of the 91 learners who wrote the National Senior Certificate examinations achieved university exemption.
Two of the learners, Bianca Davids and Nazeem Saley, obtained seven distinctions; Sufyaan Bhaiyat; Fabian Booysen; Sameera Ebrahim; and Dineo Mphahlele each attained six distinctions. One learner, Talia Unice, received five distinctions and five learners were awarded four distinctions. Eight learners managed to achieve three distinctions and 35 learners one or two distinctions.
“2012 saw the strengthening of UJ Metropolitan Academy as it not only continued with the School’s successful Grade 12 pass rate but also highlighted the core principle of early childhood development that generated greater community mobilisation towards holistic development that forms part of the UJ’s community partnership,” says Ms Marietta Westerberg, Principal of UJ Metropolitan Academy.
