UJ Choir, a product of UJ Arts & Culture (a division of the Faculty of Art, Design and Architecture), is fastening their seat belts for an exciting two weeks of choral music.
The World Choir Games is a biannual event, and for the first time is set to take place in Africa. From 4-8 July, the UJ Choir will be taking part in this prestigious global event proudly hosted in the City of Tshwane, South Africa.
More than 300 choirs from 60 countries will take part. 16 000 singers will be judged by some 60 national and international judges in the single biggest choral event in the world. UJ Choir is one of 155 South African choirs that will be part of the festivities.
There are two levels of competitions, Open Category (any choir can enter) and Champions. The latter is reserved for choirs that have proved their excellence on an international level previously. UJ Choir qualified with flying colours and will take part in the category for Mixed Choirs (6 July) and Folk Music A Cappella (7 July).
The award-winning UJ Choir has also performed internationally in countries such as Austria, Germany, Belgium and the Netherlands.
UJ would like to take a moment to wish the UJ Choir all the best and hope to see them bring back the GOLD!
